Marcus Banks is a 2001 graduate of Dixie College. In his sophomore season he led the basketball team to a 36-2 record and finished third in the Junior College National Tournament. He was the Player of the Year in Region 18 and was a first-team NJCAA All-American selection. He won the Bud Obee award, which is given to the best player under 6-foot-1 in the junior college ranks. He led the team in scoring and was second in rebounding and averaged 17 points, 5.5 rebounds and 4 assists per game.
Marcus was coached by Jeff Kidder and went on to play for the USA at the 2001 COPABA (Confederation of Pan American Basketball Associations) Tournament.
After graduating from Dixie College, he went to UNLV and was named the Mountain West Defensive Player of the Year as a junior and senior. He was a member of the MWC All-Academic team in both seasons and graduated with a degree in sociology.
Marcus was the 13th-pick of the first round in the 2003 NBA draft by the Memphis Grizzlies. He has played for the Boston Celtics, Minnesota Timberwolves, Phoenix Suns, Miami Heat, Toronto Raptors and New Orleans Hornets during his years in the league. He has averaged 5.9 points, 2.1 assists and .432 shooting percentage from the field.
Prior to his college and NBA careers, he was a 1999 graduate of Cimarron-Memorial High School in Las Vegas, Nev.
