Hall of Fame
The undefeated football team of 1963 will forever be immortalized at Dixie State. No Dixie football team had gone undefeated before, and none have gone undefeated since. At the helm of it all was the legendary head coach and DSU Athletic Hall of Fame member Sark Arslanian.
Â
Though the team was never crowned national champions, the team finished the season ranked as one of the top six teams in the nation, which, at that time, really meant something special. During this period of time a committee of coaches determined the national champion. It is similar to the current BCS structure of the modern times. With the NCAA being in its infancy, most colleges competed at the NJCAA level. With dozens of junior colleges, it was one of the highest honors to be named at the top.
