After a near month off from competition, Utah Tech women's golf returns to action early next week to play at the Arkansas State Red Wolves Classic. The two-day, 54-hole event will be played on Oct. 13-14, at Sage Meadows Country Club in Jonesboro.
The 17-team field features the Trailblazers and host Red Wolves, along with UAB, Arkansas-Little Rock, Austin Peay, Illinois State, Louisiana-Monroe, Memphis, Mississippi College, Missouri State, Morehead State, Murray State, North Alabama, Samford, SIU-Carbondale, Troy, and West Georgia.
The five player lineup for the Trailblazers will feature senior
Jenna Anderson, juniors
Samantha Phelan and
Mia Cesarek, sophomore
Maria Purroy Galan, and redshirt freshman
Gabrielle Roznicki.
HEAD COACH LINDSEY ORTH: Lindsey Orth (Utah Tech, 2007) is in her 10th season as head coach of the Trailblazer women's golf program.
Last season, Coach Orth finished its fifth season of NCAA Division I play with four top-5 showings in nine team events, highlighted by a t-second place finish at the Utah Valley Wigwam Preview in February (2/2-4/25), and a seventh-place showing at the 2025 WAC Championships.
Prior to her arrival at Utah Tech, she served as assistant golf professional at the Sand Hollow Golf Resort, and as an LPGA assistant teaching professional for the City of St. George. Orth also spent two seasons on the coaching staff of the Hurricane High School girl's golf program, including a one-year stint as the Tigers' head coach in the 2010-11 season.
Coach Orth, who is an apprentice member of the LPGA T&CP, played collegiately at the University of Central Arkansas, where she helped lead the Bears to six-consecutive team tournament wins and a Gulf South Conference championship.
RECORD SETTING START TO THE 2025 SEASON: Utah Tech combined to break three school records and tied three more en route to a fourth-place finish at the 2025-26 season-opening Utah Valley Wolverine Invitational played this past Sept. 8-9.
The Trailblazers opened the event with consecutive 3-under 285 to stand in third place overall at minus-6 570, which set a new school record for the lowest 36-hole team score.
The Blazers went on to fire a 3-over for a three-round score of minus-3 861, which shattered the program's 54-hole scoring record by a whopping 12 shots (873 at 2024 Montana State Bobcat Desert Classic).
As they did at last year's UVU season opener, both Phelan and Purroy Galan combined to lead the Trailblazer effort as the duo finished in a three-way tie for sixth place at minus-4 212. The duo's 212 total individual score also broke the Utah Tech program record 54-hole score by one stroke.
ANDERSON WINS FIRST D-I MEDALIST HONOR: Thanks to a final round 3-under 69, Anderson became the first Trailblazer in the program's Division-I era to earn individual medalist honors and helped lead Utah Tech to a runner-up finish at the Utah Fall Intercollegiate, hosted by Weber State (9/15-16).
Anderson (74-69) battled the windy conditions during her final loop to pencil in five birdies on her way to being the only player in the 33-player field to finish in red numbers at minus-1 143.
The senior became just the fourth different player in program history to win a collegiate golf tournament, and was the first Blazer to claim medalist honors since former standout
Katie Ford collected two event victories during the 2017-18 spring season.
TRAILBLAZERS AT A GLANCE: Through two events this fall season, Purroy Galan leads the team with a 72.25 stroke average through four rounds with a team-best three par or better rounds, while Anderson is second 72.80 with two par or better rounds over her first five rounds overall.
Phelan is third in stroke average at 73.20 through five rounds, followed by Cesarek in fourth at 74.80, while the ASU event will be Roznicki's first collegiate team lineup appearance.
NEXT UP FOR THE TRAILBLAZERS: The Trailblazers will enjoy another two week break closing the fall season at the Northern Arizona Clash at Boulder Creek. The two-day, 54-hole event will be played on Oct. 27-28 at Boulder Creek Golf Club in Boulder City, Nev.
