Utah Tech continues its 2026 spring season close to home this Friday-through-Sunday as the Trailblazers tee it up at the Southern Utah/Pizza Hut Lady Thunderbird Invitational.
The three-day, 54-hole event will be played at the par-72, 5,914-yard Sunbrook Golf Club in St. George. All three rounds will begin with a shotgun start each day at 8:30 a.m., utilizing The Pointe and Blackrock nine-hole courses.
The nine-team field includes fellow WAC members SUU and Utah Valley, along with Weber State, Idaho State, Omaha, Loyola-Chicago, Stetson and Wyoming.
The five player lineup for the Trailblazers will feature seniors
Jenna Anderson and
Jane Olson, juniors
Mia Cesarek and
Samantha Phelan, and sophomore
Maria Purroy Galan. In addition, redshirt junior
Samira Salinas, redshirt freshman
Gabrielle Roznicki, and freshman
Coryn Tardif will all play as individuals.
HEAD COACH LINDSEY ORTH: Lindsey Orth (Utah Tech, 2007) is in her 10th season as head coach of the Trailblazer women's golf program.
Last season, Coach Orth finished its fifth season of NCAA Division I play with four top-5 showings in nine team events, highlighted by a t-second place finish at the Utah Valley Wigwam Preview in February (2/2-4/25), and a seventh-place showing at the 2025 WAC Championships.
Prior to her arrival at Utah Tech, she served as assistant golf professional at the Sand Hollow Golf Resort, and as an LPGA assistant teaching professional for the City of St. George. Orth also spent two seasons on the coaching staff of the Hurricane High School girl's golf program, including a one-year stint as the Tigers' head coach in the 2010-11 season.
Coach Orth, who is an apprentice member of the LPGA T&CP, played collegiately at the University of Central Arkansas, where she helped lead the Bears to six-consecutive team tournament wins and a Gulf South Conference championship.
LAST TIME OUT: Utah Tech came away with a 12
th-place finish at the Western Michigan-hosted Rio Verde Collegiate Invitational, which was played this past Feb. 20-22, at Rio Verde Quail Run Golf Club in Rio Verde, Ariz.
After combining to shoot an opening 23-over par 311, the Trailblazers tied for the second-lowest second round in the 19-team field with a 4-over 292 to vault eight spots up the team leaderboard to t-seventh through 36 holes.
Unfortunately Utah Tech was not able to carry that momentum into its final loop as the team carded another 311 to finish with a three-round total of plus-50 914.
Olson and Cesarek paced the Trailblazer effort as the duo tied seven others for 30
th-place at plus-12 228. Following an opening 7-over 79, Olson, who led Utah Tech with five total birdies, bounced back with a season-low tying 1-over 73 with three birdies in round two, then finished with a 4-over 76.
Meanwhile Cesarek fired a team low 3-over 75 in round one, followed by rounds of 76 and 79 with 41 total pars over her 54 holes.
Roznicki helped lead the Blazers' final surge with a collegiate career-low round of 1-under 71, which featured her first collegiate eagle and one birdie. Roznicki's 71 was bookended by a 79 and an 8-over 80, which wound up tying her with two others for 41
st at plus-14 230.
Purroy Galan also carded an eagle during her second round and rolled in four total birdies over the three days, as she recorded rounds of 78-77-78 to finish t-56
th at plus-17 233.
In addition, Phelan tied four others for 72
nd at plus-21 237 after posting rounds of 85-74-78.
TRAILBLAZERS AT A GLANCE: Through six events this season, Anderson, who will be playing for the first time this spring, leads the team with a 74.25 stroke average. Anderson has accounted for one of the Blazers' four top-10 individual finishes, which came in her victory at the Weber State-hosted Utah Fall Intercollegiate (9/14-15).
Purroy Galan is second on the team in stroke average at 74.88 through 16 rounds with a team-best six par or better rounds and one top-10, while Cesarek is third at 75.18 with four par-or-better rounds.
Phelan follows in fourth at 75.65 with three par or better round and a team-high two top-10s, and Olson is fifth at 77.21 through 14 competitive rounds.
NEXT UP FOR THE TRAILBLAZERS: Utah Tech will head back to Arizona to play in the Minnesota-hosted Bell Bank Pay It Forward Classic, which will be played on March 23-24, at The Wigwam Resort in Litchfield Park.
