Trailblazer Women's Golf Opens the 2023 Spring Slate at the CSU Bakersfield Inv'l

Utah Tech opens its 2022 spring season this Monday and Tuesday as part of the field at the CSU Bakersfield Valley Invitational. The two-day, 54-hole tournament will be played at the par-72, 6,029-yard Bakersfield Country Club with play starting each morning at 8 a.m. (PT).

The 13-team tournament field will include the Trailblazers along with fellow WAC member Grand Canyon, along with Cal State Fullerton, CSUN, Cal State San Marcos, Fresno State, Sacramento State, Santa Clara, UC Davis, UC Irvine, UC Riverside, San Francisco, and the host Roadrunners.
 
The five player lineup for the Trailblazers will feature senior Abby Livingston, junior Grace Williams, and freshmen Brooke Gelinas, Corinne Lillywhite and Jane Olson.

HEAD COACH LINDSEY STUCKI: Lindsey Stucki (Utah Tech, 2007) is in her seventh season as head coach of the Trailblazer women's golf program. Last season, Stucki led the Trailblazers to two top-10 team finishes in their second NCAA Division I campaign. 
            During her tenure as UT head coach, Stucki has guided the Blazers to a runner-up Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference team finish in 2019, and to consecutive fifth-place finishes at the Pacific West Conference Championships in 2017 and 2018. 
            Prior to her arrival at Utah Tech, she served as assistant golf professional at the Sand Hollow Golf Resort, and as an LPGA assistant teaching professional for the City of St. George. Stucki also spent two seasons on the coaching staff of the Hurricane High School girl's golf program, including a one-year stint as the Tigers' head coach in the 2010-11 season. 
Stucki, who is a Class A member of the LPGA T&CP, played collegiately at the University of Central Arkansas, where she helped lead the Bears to six-consecutive team tournament wins and a Gulf South Conference championship. 
            Coach Stucki is assisted this season by first-year assistant coach Gina Higbee.
 
LAST TIME OUT: Utah Tech wrapped up the 2022 fall season with a 17th-place finish at the at the Northern Arizona Clash at Boulder Creek, which was played this past Oct. 23-25, at the Boulder Creek Golf Club in Boulder City, Nev. 
The Trailblazers struggled out of the gate, opening with a 31-over 319, which was followed by a 28-over 316 on their second loops. However UT rebounded by 20 shots with a final round 8-over 296 to finish at plus-67 931. 
            Olson (74-83-75) paced the Trailblazers as she joined five others tied for 75th at plus-16 232, while Gelinas (80-82-73) and Williams (77-82-76) tied for 85th at plus-19 235. Livingston (90-77-72) followed in t-88th at plus-23 239, and Lillywhite (88-75-83) finished alone in 95th at plus-30 246. 
 
TRAILBLAZERS AT A GLANCE: After four fall events this season, Livingston leads the team with a 76.73 stroke average through 11 rounds with a team-best three par or better rounds, while Gelinas is second 77.33 (1 par/better round) in 12 loops. Williams is third in stroke average at 77.83 (1 par/better round) through 12 rounds, followed by Olson in fourth at 78.25 after 12 competitive rounds, and Lillywhite is fifth at 81.25 after four events. 

NEXT UP FOR THE TRAILBLAZERS: Utah Tech will play in five regular season events this spring, with the next two coming in the Blazers' back yard. UT will host its first-ever Division I event, the Utah Tech Zupas Trailblazer Invitational, which will be played at Green Springs Golf Course on Monday and Tuesday, Feb. 13-14. 
            Then after a near three-week break, the Trailblazers will tee it up at the Southern Utah Pizza Hut Lady Thunderbird Invite at Sunbrook Golf Course in St. George on March 9-11. 
            Utah Tech will play its final two spring events in Arizona, including the NAU Red Rock Inv'l in Sedona (March 18-19), and in the Montana State Bobcat Desert Classic in Goodyear (April 9-11).
            The 2023 WAC Championships will be played on April 23-25, at the Semiahmoo Country Club in Blaine, Wash.
