Dixie State finished just out of the top-10 with a t-11
th finish at the New Mexico State Aggie Invitational, which wrapped up play on Wednesday at the NM State Golf Course.
DSU (304-305-299) began the final day tied for 11
th with UTEP, and despite carding a team event and season-low 11-over par 299, the Trailblazers stayed tied with the Miners (301-308-299) at plus-44 908. Incarnate Word (282-290-291) was the only team in the 20-team field to finish with a red number at minus-1 863 to claim the team title, one shot better than the host Aggies (288-288-288-864; E), and 13 strokes clear of third place Boise State (286-292-298-876; +12).
Junior
Abby Livingston led the Blazer charge as she recorded her second collegiate top-10 finish and tied the DSU 54-hole scoring record with a 1-over 217. After opening with a 2-over 74 on Monday, the junior blistered the front nine with five birdies, and had six birdies on the day, en route to a career-low 2-under 70 on Tuesday. Livingston then penciled in two more birdies and 13 pars on her final scorecard on Wednesday for a 1-over 73 to finish solo 10
th-overall. Livingston joined former DSU standout
Haley Dunn (2012-15), who first carded a 54-hole score of 217 exactly seven years ago (10/4-5/14) at the 2014 Golfweek Fall Inv'l.
Sophomore
Abbey Porter (76-80-72) rallied from a tough start with an even-par 72 in Wednesday to vault up 22 spots on the leaderboard to finish t-47
th at plus-12 228, while fellow sophomore
Tannica Porter (76-76-77) wound up one shot back in t-53
rd at plus-13 229. Sophomore
Kaitlin Tsukamoto (78-79-80) followed in t-74
th at plus-21 237, and sophomore
Grace Williams (88-82-77) tied for 94
th at plus-31 247.
Dixie State was slated to wrap up its 2021 fall slate at the Little Rock Women's Golf Classic on October 24-26, however DSU will no longer be participating in that tournament. The Trailblazers will kick off their 2022 spring season at the Grand Canyon Invitational on Feb. 28-March 1.Â
