Junior Samantha Phelan tied for runner-up honors to help lead Utah Tech to a spring season-best third place finish at the Montana State Bobcat Desert Classic, which wrapped up play on Wednesday at The Golf Club of Estrella in Goodyear, Ariz.

The team's third-place showing was Utah Tech's fourth top-five finish through nine team events this season overall.

After opening with a 9-over 297 to stand in sixth place on Monday, the Trailblazers bounced by tying for the second-lowest score in round two, a 1-under 289, to move up into a tie for third at plus-10 586.

Utah Tech kept the vibe going on its final loop on Wednesday, again tying for the second-lowest team score of the day, a 4-over 292, which allowed the Blazers to stay in the top-three on the team leaderboard with a three-round final score of plus-14 878.

Seattle U (289-289-295-873; +9) began the final day atop the leaderboard, and the Redhawks held off host Montana State (287-295-294-876; +12) to claim the team title by three strokes.

Phelan led the Trailblazer rally, when after opening with a 2-over 74, the junior fired a bogey free 3-under 69 in round two to vault 18 spots up the player leaderboard into a tie for sixth. Phelan, who penciled in nine total birdies over the three days, followed that up with a 1-under 71 on Wednesday to join two others tied for second place at minus-2 214.

Phelan's runner-up showing was her collegiate-best finish, while it was her sixth career top-five and her ninth career top-10 finish overall.

Meanwhile sophomore Maria Purroy Galan put together three solid rounds of her own en route to her third top-15 showing of the season. Galan, who led the team with a combined 10 birdies for the event, carded rounds of 73, 72 and 76 to finish in a seven-way tie for 12th at plus-5 221.

Senior Jane Olson found herself in a tie for eighth after Monday's opening 18 thanks to an even par 72 in a loop that featured three birdies. Olson chased that with rounds of 78 and 75 over the final two days to join five others tied for 30th at plus-9 225.

Junior Mia Cesarek, who rolled in seven of her eight total birdies during her final two rounds, bounced back from an opening 78 with a 3-over 75 on Tuesday, and a 1-over 73 on Wednesday, to finish one stroke back of Olson at plus-10 226, which was good for t-36th place.

Redshirt freshman Gabrielle Roznicki also enjoyed a strong finish, rebounding from 9-over 81 with consecutive 73s on Tuesday and Wednesday, with three birdies on each of those cards, to finish in a four-way tied for 38th at plus-11 227.

In addition, freshman Coryn Tardiff (75-82-78-235; +19) played as an individual and tallied six total birdies as she finished in a tie for 59th.

Utah Tech will now set its sights on the program's first conference title as the Trailblazers travel to "The Lone Star State" for the 2026, and final, Western Athletic Conference Women's Golf Championships. The three-day, 54-hole championship tournament will be held next Monday-through-Wednesday, April 20-22, at The Clubs of Stonebridge Ranch in McKinney, Texas.
