Utah Tech returns to action this weekend when the Trailblazers head to Arizona to play in the 23rd-Annual Western Michigan Rio Verde Collegiate Invitational. The three-day, 54-hole event will be played Friday-through-Sunday at the par-72, 5,813-yard Quail Run Golf Course at Rio Verde Country Club in Rio Verde.

Utah Tech is part of a 19-team field that includes Akron, Ball State, Bowling Green, Bradley, Butler, Central Michigan, Creighton, Illinois State, Kennesaw State, Loyola-Chicago, Missouri State, Oakland University, Ohio, South Dakota, Wichita State, Xavier, and the host Broncos "A" and "B" teams.

The five player lineup for the Trailblazers will feature senior Jane Olson, juniors Mia Cesarek and Samantha Phelan, sophomore Maria Purroy Galan, and redshirt freshman Gabrielle Roznicki.

HEAD COACH LINDSEY ORTH: Lindsey Orth (Utah Tech, 2007) is in her 10th season as head coach of the Trailblazer women's golf program.
Last season, Coach Orth finished its fifth season of NCAA Division I play with four top-5 showings in nine team events, highlighted by a t-second place finish at the Utah Valley Wigwam Preview in February (2/2-4/25), and a seventh-place showing at the 2025 WAC Championships.
Prior to her arrival at Utah Tech, she served as assistant golf professional at the Sand Hollow Golf Resort, and as an LPGA assistant teaching professional for the City of St. George. Orth also spent two seasons on the coaching staff of the Hurricane High School girl's golf program, including a one-year stint as the Tigers' head coach in the 2010-11 season.
Coach Orth, who is an apprentice member of the LPGA T&CP, played collegiately at the University of Central Arkansas, where she helped lead the Bears to six-consecutive team tournament wins and a Gulf South Conference championship.

LAST TIME OUT: Utah Tech opened the 2026 spring season tying for sixth place at the Fresno State Soboba Spring Classic, which was played Feb. 4-6, at The CC at Soboba Springs in San Jacinto, Calif.
The Trailblazers, as did the rest of the field, battled through gale-force winds during the first round. Utah Tech briefly led for a time before falling down to sixth place after an opening plus-42 330.
Utah Tech found the playing conditions much more favorable over its final 36 holes, combining to fire an 18-over 306 in round two, but could not make up any ground on the field as the Blazers remained in sixth place. The Trailblazers were one shot better on their final loop, carding a 17-over 305, but wound up tying Utah Valley (331-310-300) at plus-77 941.
The duo of Purroy Gallan and junior Cesarek led the Trailblazer effort with a pair of top-20 finishes. Purroy Galan bounced back from an opening 10-over 82 with four birdies as part of an even par 72 on her second loop. She then closed with a 5-over 77 to finish in solo 15th at plus-15 231.
Meanwhile Cesarek matched her teammate over her first 36 holes before closing with a 6-over 78 en route to a solo 16th-place showing at plus-16 232.
Phelan (81-80-80) and Roznicki (85-83-73) wound up in a pack of five golfers tied for 35th at plus-25 241. Roznicki vaulted 10 spots up the player leaderboard thanks to a collegiate career-low 1-over 73 on her final loop with two birdies and 13 pars.
In addition, Olson (86-82-77) tied for 43rd at plus-29 245, and freshman Coryn Tardif (88-80-81), playing as an individual, tied for 49th at plus-33 249.

TRAILBLAZERS AT A GLANCE: Through five events this season, Purroy Galan leads the team with a 74.23 stroke average through 13 rounds with a team-best six par or better rounds and one top-10, while Phelan is third at 74.93 with three par or better round and a team-high two top-10s.
Cesarek is fourth in stroke average at 75.00 through 14 rounds with four par-or-better loops, followed by Olson in fifth at 77.55 and Roznicki in eighth at 79.13.

NEXT UP FOR THE TRAILBLAZERS: Utah Tech will stay close to home as the Trailblazers will tee it up at the Southern Utah/Pizza Hut Lady Thunderbird Invite, which will be played at Sunbrook Golf Course in St. George on March 6-8.
