Utah Tech opened the 2026 spring season tying for sixth place at the Fresno State Soboba Spring Classic, which wrapped up play on Friday at The CC at Soboba Springs in San Jacinto, Calif.
The Trailblazers, as did the rest of the field, battled through gale-force winds during Wednesday's first round. Utah Tech briefly led for a time before falling down to sixth place after an opening plus-42 330.
Utah Tech found the playing conditions much more favorable over its final 36 holes, combining to fire an 18-over 306 in round two on Thursday, but could not make up any ground on the field as the Blazers remained in sixth place. The Trailblazers were one shot better on their final loop on Friday, carding a 17-over 305, but wound up tying Utah Valley (331-310-300) at plus-77 941.
CSUN (312-295-294-901; +37) bested the host Bulldogs (310-297-295-902; +38) by one shot to claim the team title, while UC Riverside (317-302-294-913; +49) placed third.
The duo of sophomore Maria Purroy Gallan and junior
Mia Cesarek led the Trailblazer effort with a pair of top-20 finishes. Purroy Galan bounced back from an opening 10-over 82 with four birdies as part of an even par 72 on her second loop. She then closed with a 5-over 77 to finish in solo 15
th at plus-15 231.
Meanwhile Cesarek matched her teammate over her first 36 holes before closing with a 6-over 78 en route to a solo 16
th-place showing at plus-16 232.
Junior
Samantha Phelan (81-80-80) and redshirt freshman
Gabrielle Roznicki (85-83-73) wound up in a pack of five golfers tied for 35
th at plus-25 241. Roznicki vaulted 10 spots up the player leaderboard on Friday thanks to a collegiate career-low 1-over 73 with two birdies and 13 pars.
In addition, senior
Jane Olson (86-82-77) tied for 43
rd at plus-29 245, and freshman
Coryn Tardif (88-80-81), playing as an individual, tied for 49
th at plus-33 249.
Utah Tech continues the spring season in two weeks at the Western Michigan-hosted Rio Verde Collegiate Invitational on Feb. 20-22, at the Rio Verde Country Club.
