A GLANCE AT BRIGHAM YOUNG
The Cougars open their season with Saturday's doubleheader. They reached a season-high ITA rank of No. 51 midway through 2025 before ending the year at 18-10 (8-7 Big 12) with a 4-1 loss to Central Florida in the Big 12 Championship quarterfinals.

BYU leads the all-time series against Utah Tech 4-0, with a 6-1 victory in last season's meeting in Provo, Utah. Saturday's doubleheader will feature the first games of the series in St. George. Last season, the Cougars went 7-5 in road contests.

Brigham Young has five returners but lost 2024-25 First Team Singles All-Big 12 honoree Bobo Huang. Sophomore Sue Yan Tan is the winningest 2024-25 returner, posting a 14-7 record in her first collegiate season. Seven Cougars logged a winning singles record last season, while BYU combined for a 49-26 mark in doubles action. Brigham Young also adds three freshmen, including two from Utah. BYU's next match will be at San Diego on Friday, Jan. 23.

A GLANCE AT UTAH STATE
The Aggies open their 2026 dual season with Monday's match at Utah Tech. Utah State finished 2024-25 at 5-16, ending its season in a 4-0 loss to San José State in the opening round of the Mountain West Tournament. That defeat capped off an 11-game losing streak to finish the season.

USU leads the all-time series against UT 7-0, with a 6-1 win in Logan, Utah, last season. In St. George, the Aggies lead the series 2-0, with the most recent meeting in Southern Utah a 5-2 USU win in 2024. The Aggies went 1-9 on the road last season with their lone win at Idaho State, 4-3.

Utah State returns five Aggies and adds four newcomers. USU combined for a 32-67 record in singles and a 22-29 mark in doubles during the last dual season. Utah State's next match is a neutral-site affair against Montana on Thursday, Jan. 29, in Salt Lake City, Utah.

LAST TIME OUT
Utah Tech women's tennis finished its fall campaign at the UNLV Watanabe Classic on Nov. 7-9. The Trailblazers totaled eight wins over the three-day tourney, including seven singles victories.

UT IN SEASON OPENERS
Utah Tech is 6-13 all-time in season openers with a 0-5 mark in its Division I era. The Trailblazers are 3-16 all-time in home openers with a 0-5 mark in their DI era.

MEET THE TRAILBLAZERS
Utah Tech returns seven letter winners from last year's squad, including sophomore Maya Inouye, a 2024-25 Second Team All-WAC selection. She led the Trailblazers with 10 singles wins, logging a 10-6 record during the dual season and setting the UT Division I-era record for single-season wins. Inouye is the Trailblazers' first-ever All-WAC singles honoree and the first Trailblazer to reach 10 wins since Yolena Carlon went 10-7 in 2018.

The Trailblazers' two newcomers are freshmen Cameron Hendrix and Ilse Fernanda Elechiguerra Ortega. Seeing action in two tournaments last fall, Hendrix won the Bengal draw with doubles partner senior Nicole Kells at the Idaho State Invitational and went 2-1 in singles play at the UNLV Watanabe Classic. Out of La Ceiba, Mexico, Elechiguerra Ortega joined the team in time for this spring semester.

Head coach Eric Pelton is in his 20th season at the helm of Utah Tech women's tennis. He has totaled 111 wins at UT and winning seasons in 2014 (12-9), 2017 (9-8), 2019 (13-4) and 2020 (6-3). Pelton has mentored 10 all-conference selections, including Inouye.

2025 IN REVIEW
UT posted its best Division I-era record in 2025, going 7-13 with wins over Colorado Mesa, the College of Idaho, Mesa CC, Montana, UT Dallas and Weber State. Five of those victories were 7-0 sweeps. Utah Tech's season ended in the first round of the WAC Tennis Championships with a 4-0 loss to UT Arlington.
