(Chubbuck, ID – Sept 20, 2026) – Utah Tech women's tennis began their fall season with an excellent outing at the Idaho State Invitational over the weekend. 

The format of this tournament was "mini duel" style, where two players from a school will be paired together to compete as a small team, playing a doubles match and two singles matches against another two-person team. The team that wins two of the three points advances in the bracket. The top draw was the "Orange Draw" followed by the "Black Draw" and "Bengal Draw".

The Trailblazers sent out two returning seniors for their Orange Draw team, in Mariana Zurita Berdecio and Ana Gutierrez Sampere. 

For the Black Draw, UT penciled in returner Maya Inouye and newcomer Adriana Zurita Berdecio. Adriana is a freshman and the younger sister of Mariana Zurita Berdecio. 

Two returners headlined the Utah Tech team in the Bengal Draw, in Nutsa Tsintsadze and Cameron Hendrix. Sophomore Ilse Fernanda Elechiguerra Ortega paired up with a Montana player to form the final team in the draw. 

Day 1
The Trailblazers had success on day one in the top draw, as Mariana and Ana defeated Montana State's team, 2-1. UT got the win in doubles in the tiebreaker, and Gutierrez Sampare swept her singles set to claim the overall victory. 

Freshman Adriana Zurita Berdecio swept her first collegiate singles match 6-1, 6-4.

Nutsa and Cameron got a win in the doubles of their first match in the Bengal Draw, but ultimately fell in both singles matches. Hendrix forced a tiebreaking third set, but fell short 10-3. 

Ilse won her singles match in come-from-behind fashion. After dropping the first set, she won her second to force a tiebreaker where she emerged victorious in a tight battle (11-9). 

Day 2
The Trailblazer team in the top draw continued its winning ways, again by the score of 2-1. Like Friday, Mariana and Ana won the doubles in tiebreaking fashion, and Gutierrez Sampere swept her singles match to clinch the overall victory. 

In the Black Draw, Maya Inouye picked up her first singles win of the weekend, coming from behind to win decisively in sets two and three. Maya also picked up a singles sweep in the Bengal Draw (6-1,6-2). 

Day 3
On Sunday, Marina and Ana clinched a sweep of the Orange Draw, winning the doubles match and both singles matches. 

Maya and Adriana also swept their match in the Black Draw, and Ilse and Cameron picked up their first win in the Bengal Draw, completing a total sweep for the Trailblazers on Sunday. 

Ana Gutierrez Sampere went undefeated on the weekend, winning all three singles matches and all three doubles matches. 

Maya Inouye won three of her four singles matches this weekend, and freshman Adriana Zurita Berdecio also won three of her four singles matches in her first collegiate competition.
