Utah Tech broke one school relay record during the first session of its two-day tri-meet against both New Mexico State and New Mexico on Friday afternoon at the NM State Swimming and Diving Complex in Las Cruces. 
 
Day one featured six relays races, during which the Trailblazers placed second overall in all six behind the host Aggies. 
 
"It was great to see our team being consistent in our racing," said Head Coach Shawn King. "New Mexico State is one of the best teams in our conference. With how young our team is, I'm very encouraged by how well we competed and raced tonight."
 
Utah Tech touched the wall second in the 400-yard medley relay, with the team of Makaela Perea, Cera Mallory, Gabby Henry and Natalia Zmierczak combining for a time of 3:52.82.
 
The five other relay races the Blazers competed on Friday had only been swam by a Utah Tech team twice since 2018. 
 
The first of which, the 300 fly relay, featured the group of Madeleine McGaughy, Kiana Hugins and Kam Swanson recording the second-fastest relay time in program history with a runner-up 2:58.33

In the 300 back relay, the team of Mary Sims Cross, Perea and Dani Cannon posted the second-fastest mark in school history with a time of 2:54.59.
 
Then in the 300 breast relay, the trio of Alyssa Gordon, Marta Valkovska and Emilie Coleman swam the second-fastest time in Trailblazer history with a second-place 3:23.74.
 
Utah Tech broke its school record in the 4x100 IM relay, with the foursome of Cross, Kate Reichner, McGaughy and Coco Riding bettering the previous record by nearly 10 full seconds with a second place 4:07.52. 

Utah Tech went on to close the session with second place showing the 500 free relay as the team of Henry, Reagan Patterson, Zmierczak and Mallory clocking the second-fastest time in program history with a 4:33.59.
 
In addition, the Trailblazer "B" team of Nia Turagavou, Sorina Rom, Zofia Gorska and Rachel Maki posted the fourth-fastest time in that event in program history with a third-place 4:42.98.
 
Utah Tech will return to the pool for day two of tri-meet against the Aggies and Lobos on Saturday morning beginning at 11 a.m. (MT).
