A GLANCE AT UTAH STATE
The Aggies open their 2025 spring schedule by hosting Utah Tech. Last season, Utah State finished 10th in the Mountain West Conference with a 5-17 (1-19 MW) record, ending its season in a 4-0 loss to San Diego State in the quarterfinals of the Mountain West Championships.
USU brings back four returners while adding four newcomers, including three freshmen and junior transfer Olivia Halvorsen from The Clariden School. Head coach Veronika Golanova leads the Aggies in her second season at the helm after serving as assistant coach at Utah State for three seasons.
Utah State went 1-7 at home last season, securing its lone victory in a 4-1 conference decision with Air Force. The Aggies beat Utah Tech last season 5-2 in St. George. USU leads the all-time series with UT 6-0 with four wins in Logan.
OPENING WEEK RECAP
Utah Tech opened its spring season with three games over three days on the Wasatch Front last week. The Trailblazers secured a point in the season-opener at BYU 6-1 as the Cougars forfeited the number six singles spot and the third match of doubles play. Against Montana State in Salt Lake City, Utah, freshman

Laura Coulome took down MSU's Kavya Khirwar and Mia Ljubas 6-3 in the third doubles match. UT battled tough with extended sets, including a forced third set by freshman
Maya Inouye, but ultimately fell 7-0 to the Bobcats. At Utah, the Trailblazers came up short 5-0 with two close singles matches remaining unfinished in the second set.
LOOK BACK AT THE FALL SCHEDULE
- IDAHO STATE INVITATIONAL:Â The Trailblazers earned four wins in singles play (Ana Gutierrez Sampere, Mariana Zurita, Nutsa Tsintsadze and Olivia Bustos) and one win (Zurita & Maya Inouye) in doubles action over the three-day event in Pocatello, Idaho.Â
- WAC TENNIS INVITATIONAL:Â Zurita captured a big 7-5 (6-2) win over No. 7 seed Masha Vrsalovic (Abilene Chrisitan) to pick up UT's lone win (1-3) in Abilene, Texas.
- UNLV WATANABE CLASSIC:Â Utah Tech totaled six wins across the three-day tournament in Las Vegas, Nevada. Zurita notched a win in singles play as well as in doubles action with Inouye. Raquel Roshak and Laura Coulome both tallied two wins in singles action over the final two days.
MEET THE TRAILBLAZERS
The 2024-25 roster consists of eight student-athletes with one senior, two juniors, three sophomores and two freshmen. Five Trailblazers are international students and three hail from the United States. Coulome (Eastern Arizona) and
Nicole Kells (Alcorn State) both started their collegiate careers at other schools.
Head coach
Eric Pelton is in his 19th season at the helm of Utah Tech women's tennis. Pelton has totaled 104 wins at UT and winning seasons in 2014 (12-9), 2017 (9-8), 2019 (13-4) and 2020 (6-3).
2024 IN REVIEW
The Trailblazers wrapped up their fourth and final season of transition to Division I in 2024 with a 6-16 (0-7 WAC) record, defeating UT Dallas, Colorado Mesa, Ottawa University (Ariz.), Arizona Christian along with a pair of wins over Mesa Community College.
