Box Score (Salt Lake City - Jan. 17, 2025) - Utah Tech women's tennis came up short in a neutral-site match with Montana State, 7-0 on Friday night inside the George S. Eccles Tennis Center.

"The girls played a hard-fought match today," UT head coach Eric Pelton said.

The highlight of the contest was a Trailblazer win in the third match of doubles play as freshman Nutsa Tsintsadze and senior Laura Coulome took down MSU's Kavya Khirwar and Mia Ljubas 6-3.

Freshman Maya Inouye battled tough with Bobcat Andrea Cuquerella in the number three singles spot, forcing a third set before falling 2-6, 6-1, 6-4. 

"Maya played some incredible tennis today, coming up just short in the third set," Pelton said. "It's so great to see the things she is doing out there on the court. Her effort and intensity are awesome."

In the number one singles spot, sophomore Ana Gutierrez Sampere's comeback in the second set came up short against Marta Garcia-Reboredo 6-3, 7-6.

"Ana played some exceptional tennis against a strong opponent," Pelton said. 

Sophomore Olivia Bustos' went back and forth with Kavya Khirwar in the number four singles spot before suffering a close 6-4, 7-5 defeat.

"Olivia also played some great tennis," Pelton said. "She had some opportunities but just couldn't close them out. But it was great to see her fighting and running down everything, making her opponent earn everything."

The Trailblazers return to action tomorrow as they visit Utah on Saturday, Jan. 18, at 10 a.m. inside the George S. Eccles Tennis Center in Salt Lake City, Utah.
