Utah Tech women's tennis wrapped up its fall season at the 2024 Jolene Watanabe Classic hosted by UNLV over the weekend. The Trailblazers totaled six wins across the three-day tournament at the Fertitta Tennis Complex.
"The girls continued to play some great tennis," Utah Tech head coach
Eric Pelton said. "I was impressed with the girls as a whole and how hard they work. This is the most wins we have had at this tournament against a lot of top schools this year."
On Friday, sophomore
Mariana Zurita and freshman
Maya Inouye won UT's first match of the classic in doubles flight one. Zurita and Inouye beat Gonzaga's Ella Nielsen and Norhan Hesham 7-6 (8).
Zurita picked up a win in singles play, 7-6, 6-2, over Utah's Emma Valletta in singles flight one on Saturday. Pelton said she played phenomenally and dominated from the ground.
In flight four singles, senior
Laura Coulome bested Savannah Johnson of Gonzaga 6-1, 6-2 and junior
Raquel Roshak won a battle over her hometown university, besting UNLV's Zarina Novruzova 7-6 (4), 7-5.
On Sunday, Coulome picked up her second win with a 6-3, 6-3 outing over Johnson. Roshak also earned her second victory with a 6-2, 6-3 decision over Novruzova. Both matches were in flight four singles.
