Utah Tech posted a 17
th-place finish at the Northern Arizona Red Rocks Invitational, which was played this weekend at the Oakcreek Country Club in Sedona, Ariz.
The Trailblazers (306-310-307) wound up with a three-round score of plus-59 923, which was two shots back of 16
th-place Wyoming (304-311-306-921; +57) and three strokes behind 15
th-place Southern Utah (309-311-300-920; +56).
Navy (293-298-289-880; +16) bested the 20-team field to win the team title, while Grand Canyon (303-287-294-884; +20) took runner-up honors.
Freshman
Brooke Gelinas enjoyed a banner weekend as she posted her first collegiate top-three individual finish as she tied for third overall at minus-1 215. Gelinas carded a pair of 1-under 71s on Saturday morning and Sunday, which bracketed a 1-over 73 in round two on Saturday afternoon, on her way to breaking the UT school 54-hole scoring record by two strokes.
The freshman co-led the 105-player field with 14 birdies and penciled in 28 pars over her three loops. Gelinas finished the 54-hole event tied for second in par-4 scoring (E, 4.00), t-12
th in par-3 scoring (3.08) and t-15
th in par-5 scoring (4.83).
Meanwhile, senior
Abby Livingston (80-82-72) tied for 71
st at plus-18 234, followed by junior
Grace Williams (77-78-82) in t-83
rd at plus-21 237, and freshmen
Jane Olson (78-82-82-242; +26) and
Corinne Lillywhite (83-77-85-245; +29) finished in 94
th and 98
th place, respectively.
Utah Tech will enjoy a three-week break from competition before returning to Arizona to close the 2022-23 regular season at the Montana State-hosted Bobcat Desert Classic, which will be played April 9-11, at The Golf Club of Estrella in Goodyear.
