Women's tennis stopped by Santa Clara

Box Score Dixie State women's tennis dropped its senior night match versus Santa Clara, getting stopped 6-1.

Head coach Eric Pelton said, "I was very impressed with their energy and effort today. hey needed to win a few more important points but we were right there with them in doubles. Santa Clara came out aggressive and surprised us a bit. We had some chances but they really pushed us."

The Trailblazers struggled to find their groove in doubles play. Sabrina Longson and Jane Dorny played a close match in the No. 3 spot but fell 6-4. After losing in the No. 2 and 3 spots, the No. 1 game did not finish.

Rachel Mellor played to her fifth singles win in the last six matches earning the Trailblazers lone singles point in the No. 4 spot. She won her sets 6-3 and 6-4.

Angelina Amelkina played a close match in the No. 5 spot, forcing a tiebreak set after going 7-5 and 3-6 in the first two sets. Ultimately she lost the tiebreak set 10-3.

The Trailblazers will now head back out on the road for their final matches of the season. On April 15 the Blazers will face Seattle U at 2 p.m. and April 16 versus Chicago State at 11 a.m.
