Trailblazer tennis has strong performance in 5-2 loss to North Dakota

Box Score Dixie State women's tennis had it's most successful match of the 2022 season despite losing 5-2 to North Dakota.

Head coach Eric Pelton said, "The girls really competed well today. They played strong and we came up with 2 big wins in singles play. Very proud of the girls today. They played some great matches and were able to win some big points and get some great wins.

Everyone in doubles play was able to get set wins, but North Dakota swept the Blazers taking the singles point with match scores of 6-2, 6-3 and 6-3.

Despite losing the doubles point, the Trailblazers were strong in singles play. The Blazers took two wins in singles action.

Juliana Honczaruk played to a narrow win in the No. 3 spot after rebounding from a set one loss. Honczaruk lost set one narrowly 4-6, she recovered nicely taking set two 6-2. Set three took a long tie break set and Honczaruk found a win by a 12-10 score. This is her first singles win of the 2022 season.

Sabrina Longson won the No. 4 singles as well with set scores of 6-2, 4-6 and 11-9. It was a close matchup the entire way through, but Longson held strong in the tiebreak set to earn the point for the Blazers. This was also Longson's first singles win of the season.

Jane Dorny had a strong individual performance in the No. 6 singles spot as well. After losing set one 3-6 she rallied back to force a tiebreak in set two. Dorny would lose the tiebreak but it was a strong performance from the freshman.

The Blazers will have one more match this weekend tomorrow at UNLV at 11 a.m. (MT).
