Trailblazers open weekend of matches with 6-1 loss to Montana

Box Score Dixie State women's tennis started out their weekend slate of matches with a 6-1 loss to Montana.

The day started off with the Grizzlies taking the doubles point. In all three matches the Trailblazers were able to get individual set wins, but no one was able to take a match. Jane Dorny and Sabrina Longson got close in the No. 3 spot, narrowly losing 6-4.

The Grizzlies won the other two doubles sets 6-2 and 6-1.

In singles play the Trailblazers had strong individual performances and were able to take a point on the day.

Rachel Mellor earned her first singles win of the 2022 season over Montana's Ivayla Mitkova in the No. 5 spot with 6-0 and 6-2 set scores. This was the Trailblazers lone singles win on the day.

Jane Dorny fought hard in the No. 6 singles spot as well after losing set one 6-0 she fought hard in the second set narrowly losing 7-5.

Juliana Honczaruk also had a hard fought loss after forcing a tiebreak in set two of her match.

The Trailblazers will look to bounce back tomorrow at 11 a.m. (MT) against North Dakota. They will then round out the weekend on Saturday with a match against UNLV. Next week the Trailblazers head back out on the road for two Friday matches against Arizona Christian and Ottawa.
