Women’s Tennis opens PacWest Championships with loss to Azusa Pacific

The Dixie State women's tennis team opened the Pacific West Conference Championships with a 5-0 loss to Azusa Pacific on Wednesday at the Surprise Tennis and Racquet Complex in Surprise, Arizona.

The Trailblazers (8-8) dropped each of the three doubles matches to open the contest, as the Cougars claimed an 8-2 victory at No. 1 doubles and 8-1 wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles to take a 3-0 lead in the match.

The match was halted in singles play after Azusa Pacific earned wins at No. 2 and No. 4 singles to clinch the match, leaving four of the singles matches unfinished. Lacey Hancock (St. George, Utah/Pine View HS) held a 5-4 lead at No. 1 singles when the Cougars clinched the match.

Dixie State will close its season with a consolation match vs. Dominican on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. Mountain Standard Time (6:30 p.m. MDT).
