Women’s Tennis falls at Dominican Tuesday

Frances Hina Goldsmith now 4-0 in California, winner of five of last six singles matches

The Dixie State women's tennis team fell, 8-1, at Dominican on Tuesday at the Castellucci Tennis Center in San Rafael, California.

The Trailblazers (8-5) opened the match with three close losses in doubles play, with all three matches ending in an 8-5 score or higher. Sydney Nichols (Elwood, Utah/Bear River HS) and Maria Kana Goldsmith (Honolulu, Hawaii/Myron B. Thompson Academy) came closest to a point in doubles play, falling 8-6.

Frances Hina Goldsmith (Honolulu, Hawaii/Myron B. Thompson Academy) continued her singles play win streak, taking a 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 5 singles for DSU's lone point of the match. Goldsmith moves to 4-0 in singles play on the current trip, and has won five of her last six singles matches. Lacey Hancock (St. George, Utah/Pine View HS) battled before falling, 6-3, 6-2, at No. 1 singles, while Laura Hartle (Salt Lake City, Utah/East HS) fell just short of forcing a third set at No. 4 singles, dropping a 6-1, 7-5 decision.

Dixie State continues its trip on Wednesday at Notre Dame de Namur in Belmont, California. The match is scheduled for a 2 p.m. Pacific Time (3 p.m. MT) start.
