Women’s Tennis falls to Boise State Wednesday

The Dixie State women's tennis team dropped an 8-1 decision to Boise State on Wednesday at the Bell Tennis Courts on the DSU campus in St. George.

The Trailblazers (6-3) trailed 2-1 after doubles play, after Lacey Hancock (St. George, Utah/Pine View HS) and Laura Hartle (Salt Lake City, Utah/East HS) battled to an 8-4 win at No. 1 doubles to earn DSU's lone point of the match. The duo built a 7-3 lead before BSU won the next game to close the gap to 7-4. Hancock and Hartle swept through the final game to clinch the victory.

Hancock stayed close at No. 1 singles before falling, 6-4, 6-4. Frances Hina Goldsmith (Honolulu, Hawaii/Myron B. Thompson Academy) earned a 6-4 win in the first set at No. 5 singles, but BSU's Jovana Kuljanin rallied for a 6-2 win in the second set, and clinched the win with a 10-6 tiebreaker. Maria Kana Goldsmith (Honolulu, Hawaii/Myron B. Thompson Academy) battled at No. 3 singles, but eventually fell, 6-3, 6-4.

Dixie State will now head to northern California for a stretch of seven matches in six days, starting on Saturday vs. Hawai'i Hilo in Oakland.
