Women’s Tennis splits on final day in Northern California

The Dixie State women's tennis team played to a split of the final two matches of its Northern California trip on Wednesday. Both matches were played at Merritt College in Oakland.

The Red Storm (5-11) opened the day with a 9-0 win over Notre Dame de Namur, sweeping doubles and singles play. Karolin Kukaras (Heidelberg, Germany/Internationale Gesamtschule Heidelberg) and Lacey Hancock (St. George, Utah/Pine View HS) cruised to an 8-1 win at No. 1 doubles, while Laura Hartle (Salt Lake City, Utah/East HS) and Jenna Fosdick (Draper, Utah/Corner Canyon HS) rolled to an 8-0 win at No. 2 doubles.

Kukaras and Hancock also rolled at No. 1 and 2 singles, both winning by a 6-0, 6-0 count. Samantha Yacano (Arvada, Colo./Arvada West HS) and Tarver each duplicated the feat, winning at No. 3 and 4 singles by the same score. NDNU fielded only four players in the match, and DSU received victories by default at No. 3 doubles and No. 5 and 6 singles.

The Storm fell, 6-3, to Holy Names in the final match of the day. Kukaras and Yacano again rolled at No. 1 doubles, earning an 8-2 win. Both players also earned victories in singles play, as Kukaras won 6-3, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, and Hancock earned a 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 2 singles.

Dixie State will close out its regular season on April 7 at Southern Utah University in Cedar City.
