Women’s Tennis opens NorCal trip with win at Mills College

The Dixie State women's tennis team opened its five-game Northern California trip on Friday with a 9-0 win at Division III foe Mills College in Oakland, California.

The Red Storm (4-8) dropped just one game during doubles play, as sophomore Karolin Kukaras (Heidelberg, Germany/Internationale Gesamtschule Heidelberg) and freshman Lacey Hancock (St. George, Utah/Pine View HS) rolled to an 8-0 win at No. 1 doubles. Junior Laura Hartle (Salt Lake City, Utah/East HS) and freshman Jenna Fosdick (Draper, Utah/Corner Canyon HS) recorded an 8-0 win at No. 2 doubles, while juniors Samantha Yacano (Arvada, Colo./Arvada West HS) and Kaylee Tarver (Wrightwood, Calif./Serrano HS) finished with an 8-1 win at No. 3 doubles.

DSU continued its strong play into the singles matches, led by Hancock with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 2 singles. Hartle also finished with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 3 singles, while Yacano duplicated the feat at No. 5 singles. Kukaras cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles, while Tarver did the same at No. 6 singles and Fosdick finished with a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 4 singles.

"The team was focused today," head coach Eric Pelton said. "They played aggressively, attacking the net and closing out points."

Dixie State will continue its stretch of five matches in six days with a matchup with Pacific West Conference foe Dominican in San Rafael, California, on Sunday.
