Anderson shines at SUU, Storm fall 6-1

CEDAR CITY, Utah – The Dixie State women's tennis team fell to Division I Southern Utah for the second time this season with a 6-1 loss on Thursday.
 
DSU fell to 4-7 on the season.
 
Ashley Anderson (Sandy, UT/Alta High School ) won both of her matches against the Thunderbirds – at No. 5 singles and with Sierra Smith (Denton, TX/John H Guyer) at No. 3 doubles. Anderson defeated Alba Payeras of SUU 6-2, 7-6 (4) in straight sets. In the doubles match, Anderson and Smith won 6-2. The Storm lost the overall doubles point losing the other two decisions.
 
"Anderson and Smith came out ready to play in their doubles," DSU head coach Eric Pelton said. "Anderson carried that momentum and focus into her singles play. She was able to control the match from the beginning."
 
Zenja Draca (Novi Sad, Serbia/Nov Sad (Serbia)) was forced a third set in No. 3 singles after winning 6-2 in the first set.
 
Dixie State will play another Division I opponent on Friday when they host Weber State at the Bell Courts at 3:30 p.m. on Friday.
