Storm had chances against DI foe

ST. GEORGE, Utah – Geographic rivals clashed at Bell Courts on Wednesday, as visiting Southern Utah swept through Dixie State, 9-0.

The Storm dropped their spring home opener to the closest Division I program in proximity to St. George.

"It was a really close match even though the score does not show it," DSU head coach Eric Pelton said. "We had chances in the doubles and in three singles matches, but just could not close it out."

In first doubles, Karolin Kukaras (Heidelberg, Germany) and Laura Hartle (Salt Lake City, UT/East) dropped a close one in a tiebreaker. Stormy Dvorak (Laguna Beach, CA/Park City), Zenja Draca (Novi Sad, Serbia/Nov Sad (Serbia)) and Ashley Anderson (Sandy, UT/Alta High School ) all went to a third set tiebreaker in singles.

SUU opened their spring season with a win while the Storm dropped to 4-4.

Dixie State will have a few weeks off before starting Pacific West Conference play on March 22 against affiliate member Cal State L.A.
