Women's Tennis Drops Close Match To Metro State-Denver

Storm Finish Fall Season With 2-2 Record

COMPLETE RESULTS

The Dixie State women's tennis team wrapped up its four-game Colorado trip with a close 5-4 loss to Metro State-Denver.

The Storm split the six singles matches with the Roadrunners, but only took one of three double matches, as freshman duo Lacey Hancock (St. George, Utah/Pine View HS) and Jenna Fosdick (Draper, Utah/Corner Canyon HS) earned a 8-1 win at No. 2 doubles. Sophomore Karolin Kukaras (Heidelberg, Germany/Internationale Gesamtschule Heidelberg) led the way at No. 1 singles, earning a 6-2, 6-4 win to stay undefeated on the week. Kukaras earned wins in all four matches without dropping a set.

Junior Samantha Yacano (Arvada, Colo./Arvada West HS) earned her first win of the trip at No. 5 singles in comeback fashion. Yacano dropped the first set, but rallied to take the second set and a 10-point tiebreaker, winning 4-6, 6-3,10-7.

"The girls continued to play some great Tennis today," Head Coach Eric Pelton said. "We just came up a little short. I am proud of them and the focus and hard work they put in on the court this weekend. It was a great team effort."

Dixie State ends its fall season with a 2-2 record with wins over Colorado Christian and Colorado State-Pueblo, and losses to Colorado Mesa and Metro State-Denver. The Storm will return to action for the spring season starting in February.
