Women's Tennis Falls To Colorado Mesa

COMPLETE RESULTS (PDF)

The Dixie State women's tennis team opened its fall season Thursday, falling 6-3 to Colorado Mesa in Grand Junction, Colo.

Sophomore Karolin Kukaras (Heidelberg, Germany/Internationale Gesamtschule Heidelberg) shined for the Storm in the loss, winning both her matches against the Mavericks. Kukaras defeated Katie Kirby 6-2, 6-4 at No. 2 singles and combined with Junior Laura Hartle (Salt Lake City, Utah/East HS) to win 8-4 at No. 2 doubles.

Freshman Lacey Hancock (St. George, Utah/Pine View HS) defeated Frederikke Karst for a 7-6, 7-6 victory at No. 1 singles.

"It was a great first match of the fall season," Head Coach Eric Pelton said. "The girls played great at points, but came up just short. Hancock had an amazing first college match, closing out a win at the No. 1 singles spot in a first and second set tiebreaker. Kukaras and Hartle came out very aggressive in their doubles, then they closed out the match with some great serving and volleys."

The Storm return to action tomorrow with matches against Colorado Christian (8 a.m.) and Colorado State-Pueblo (2:30 p.m.).
