Red Storm Win Doubles and Cruise to 6-3 Victory over Western New Mexico

PHOENIX -- The Dixie State University women's tennis team opened the spring 2014 season with a win over Western New Mexico University 6-3 in Phoenix, Ariz. on Thursday afternoon.

The Red Storm (3-2) swept doubles to take a 3-0 lead in the match, but the Mustangs (0-4) responded with victories at No. 1, No. 2, and No. 3 singles to tie the match at 3-3.

Laura Hartle (/) defeated Diamond Morrill 6-0, 6-3 at No.4 singles to pick up the victory. The Storm also picked up wins at No. 5 singles from Zenja Draca (Novi Sad, Serbia/Nov Sad (Serbia)) and Sierra Smith (Denton, TX/John H Guyer) at No. 6 to walk away with the win.

"It was a very strong performance for us," said head coach Eric Pelton. "The big difference came in our doubles play, I am very happy!"

The Red Storm continue the weekend road trip with a match tomorrow with Chaminade University at 6 pm in Glendale, Ariz.
