WTEN: Red Storm Drop Match 8-1 to #38 Sonoma State



ROHNERT PARK, Calif. -- Playing their first match on a five match road swing, the Dixie State women's tennis team lost to #38 Sonoma State 8-1.

The Red Storm got behind early, dropping all three of the doubles matches.

Coach Eric Pelton said, "We got behind early and the girls fought back in the singles."

The Red Storm (5-8) had several chances to pick up points. In #3 singles, Allison Evans (Safford, AZ/Safford ) won the opening set 6-3, but lost the nex two set 3-6 and 0-6 to the SeaWolves Brook McBride.

DSC did pick up a win at #6 singles with Sierra Smith (Denton, TX/John H Guyer) defeating Lauen Shafer 6-2, 1-6, 6-1 to give the Red Storm their lone point of the match.

Coach Eric Pelton said, "Smith won in three sets and Evans and Hughes came up just short losing in three sets. We had some oppurtunities and were just unable to convert on them."

The Red Storm do battle today with Mills College at 3:00 p.m.
