Women's Tennis Splits Opening Day Matches

PHOENIX, AZ - The Dixie State College women's tennis team made their 2012 debut with two matches today in Phoenix.

In the opener against Glendale CC, Dixie State defeated swept both the doubles and singles portions of the matches to win 9-0.

Coach Eric Pelton said, "it was a good first day to the season, The girls came out and played very well against Glendale and were able to in a good groove. They were hitting the ball well and were able to sweep the doubles and the singles."

In the afternoon match the Red Storm battled #14 Grand Canyon. The Lopes dominated the Red Storm in both the doubles and the singles matches and went home with a 9-0 win.

"Our next match was against a very much improved #14 in Nation Grand Canyon University. The girls played well had some great points and fought hard. Grand Canyon just ended up being too strong."

Tomorrow the Red Storm are scheduled for a single match against Montana State Billings. First serve is set for 9:00 am.
