Women's Tennis Edges Dominican 5-4



PHOENIX, Ariz. -- The Dixie State College women's tennis team picked a 5-4 win over Dominican University in their final match in Phoenix tonight.

The Red Storm (3-3) jumped out in front by winning #2 and #3 doubles matches. The pair of Allison Evans (Safford, AZ/Safford ) and Allison Long (West Jordan, UT/West Jordan) defeated DUC Maria Araian Paradis and Jamie Fernandez 8-3 in #2 doubles. In #3 doubles, Kristen Nichols (Elwood, UT/Bear River) and Sierra Smith (Denton, TX/John H Guyer) defeated Jessica Curlett and Jobeth Pascual 8-1.

In singles matches, #3 Allison Evans (Safford, AZ/Safford ) (6-2, 6-0), #5 Kristen Nichols (Elwood, UT/Bear River) (6-1, 6-0) and #6 Lindsay Snow (Saint George, UT/Pine View)(6-1, 6-1) led the Red Storm to the victory.

Coach Eric Pelton said, "The ladies really dug deep today in our final match. We came up with a big win over Dominican. It was our sixth match in four days and played through our fatigue. It was a great win for our team"

Dixie State will host Division I Southern Utah on Febuary 25th at 1:00 p.m.
