Tennis Take Two Out Of Three Matches on Thurs., Friday

Sweep NDNU, lose at Academy

A youthful Dixie State College tennis squad defeated Notre Dame de Namur twice Thursday before falling to the Academy of Art University in Pacific West Conference play Friday.

Against the Argonauts, DSC took advantage of the short-handed squad losing only one set in two matches played Thursday under beautiful Northern California skies. The Red Storm took both matches 9-0

Allison Long (West Jordan, UT/West Jordan) dropped the first set in the morning session playing No. 1-singles to NDNU's Rebecca Cortez. Long bounced back from the 4-6 opening set to dominate set two at 6-1. She completed the match with a 10-5 tiebreaker win.

Lauren Tarver (Wrightwood. CA/Serrano), Hilary Wright and Sarah Hughes (Bountiful, UT/Woods Cross HS) lost only four games combined in straight-set wins in single matches two through four. Single matches five and six were walkover win for the Storm.

In doubles, Wright and Hughes took the No. 1 match 8-4 while Lindsay Snow (Saint George, UT/Pine View) and Long blanked their opponents 8-0 in the No. 2 match.

The afternoon session saw a complete sweep for Dixie State without dropping a set. Adrienne Davis (Salt Lake City, UT/Olympus) put on an impressive 6-1, 6-1 display in No. 3 singles after not seeing action in the morning match.

With the victories, Dixie State improved to 4-9 on the season.

A quick trip up the San Francisco peninsula Friday setup a conference match with the Urban Knights. For the second time in a span of 14 days, Academy defeated the Red Storm 8-1.

DSC's only win came in No. 3 doubles. Tarver and Davis upended the duo of Paola Correa Fe/Cecilia Hedin 8-4.

The 4-10 Red Storm concludes a Bay Area trip Saturday at Dominican University. First serve is at 9 a.m.
