Utah Tech track and field returns to Southern California for a pair of meets this week. The Trailblazers are slated for competition in the La Verne-hosted Leopard Invitational on Thursday and Friday and the renowned Bryan Clay Invitational on Friday.

RECORDS KEEP FALLING
The Trailblazers set five program records at their season-opening Utah Tech Invitational. Junior Lainee Leavitt (High Jump, 1.65 meters, 5-5), senior Rashawnna Gibson (200 Meters, 24.35), senior Lexi Larsen (1,500 Meters, 4:32.24) and sophomore Whitney Christiansen (400 Meters, 54.79) all broke individual records. The Trailblazers also set a new 4x100-meter relay record with a time of 46.29. Gibson, Christiansen, junior Brittany Kuhn and freshman Adaorah Okafor ran the relay.

Christiansen set the Trailblazers' sixth program record of the season (800 meters, 2:09.94) at the UNLV Rebel ELITE on April 5 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Senior Kylie Bishop smashed the UT high jump record with a mark of 1.69 meters (5-6.5) to win the event at the CSU Fullerton-hosted Fullerton Friday Night Lights on April 11 in Fullerton, California.

LAST TIME OUT
Utah Tech track & field broke a program record in the high jump, won three events and logged 15 top eight finishes at the Cal State Fullerton-hosted Fullerton Friday Night Lights at Titans Track and Field Complex on Friday night. 

Senior Kylie Bishop won the high jump in dominant fashion with a program-record mark of 1.69 meters (5-6.5). Bishop cleared two progressions and four inches higher than anyone else in the field, and her result ranks third in the WAC this season. Junior Lainee Leavitt tied for third with a clearance of 1.56 meters (5-1.25).

The Trailblazers opened the meet with a strong showing in the 4x100-meter relay, matching their program record of 46.29 in a second-place finish. Freshman Adaorah Okafor, senior Rashawnna Gibson and sophomores Whitney Christiansen and Jesse Fowler ran the relay.

Freshman Ilenia DeHart was victorious in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:03.11. Junior Madelynne Crawford followed in fourth with a time of 1:04.87.

In the 100-meter hurdles, juniors Ashlyn Parish and Brittany Kuhn placed in the top eight. Parish finished second, clocking a 14.07 and Kuhn came in fifth at 14.46.

Christiansen took second in the 400 meters with a time of 55.71. Freshman Lily Sampson followed in seventh at 57:90.

Sophomore Mackenzie Bradach placed third in the long jump with a mark of 5.25 meters (17-2.75). 

In the 800 meters, junior Savannah Eatough and senior Sadie Edwards finished fifth and sixth with times of 2:18.33 and 2:19.58, respectively.

Gibson placed eighth in the 100 meters at 11.87 and 200 meters at 25.33.

Utah Tech closed the meet by winning the 4x400-meter relay, clocking a 3:49.91. Christiansen, junior Megan Jenkins, DeHart and Sampson ran the relay.

2024 SEASON RECAP
UT competed in six meets last outdoor season, setting nine program records. At the 2024 WAC Outdoor Championships, six Trailblazers earned all-conference honors. Junior Megan Jenkins was named First Team All-WAC for finishing third in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 58.85.

HEAD COACH DERRICK ATKINS
Head coach Derrick Atkins is in his fifth season at the helm of Utah Tech track & field in 2025. 

With his guidance, Utah Tech has set school records in 19 indoor events and 18 outdoor events, with 17 of those records achieved during the 2024 seasons. The Trailblazer set nine program records during the 2025 indoor season.

UT has also excelled academically under Atkins with 10 Trailblazers earning academic all-WAC honors during the 2024 indoor season and 25 Trailblazers earning the same honor during the 2024 outdoor season.
