Trailblazers Break Two Program Records, Score Highest Team Points Total in D-1 Era at the WAC T&F Outdoor Championships

(Arlington, TX - April 30, 2026) - Utah Tech track & field racked up 8 top-5 finishes, 5 top-3 finishes, broke 2 school records, and posted a 6th place finish with 55 total points at the WAC Track & Field Championships in Arlington, Texas this week.

Utah Tech saw their first points of the championships in the heptathlon that began Thursday morning and concluded Friday afternoon as Reyes Hernandez and Mille Roesaeg finished in 7th and 8th, resulting in 3 team points. Hernandez accumulated 4,181 points over the combined event, setting a UT record.

Friday ended on a high note as Averie Perriton placed 2nd in the 3000 meter steeplechase with a time of 10:31.87. As of May 14, Perriton currently sits at 40th regionally in the 3000 meter steeplechase and will be awaiting potential qualification for the NCAA West Regionals beginning May 27.

Championship Saturday got off to a nice start for Utah Tech as Hannah Bingham, Lily Sampson, Kooper Dennison, and Jesse Fowler took 4th in the 4x100 meter relay, with a time of 46.97.

Megan Jenkins began her hurdling events with the 100 meter version, where she recorded her first 2nd place finish of the day with a time of 13.70. Jenkins then continued her silver winning ways in the 400 meter hurdles where she took home another 2nd place finish, with a 59.79 time. 

In the distance runs, Scarlett Brock and Whitney Christiansen both logged 5th place finishes and 4 points each for the Trailblazers. Brock recorded a time of 56.86 in the 400m and Christiansen recorded a time of 2:13.60 in the 800m.

UT wrapped up their championships on the track with a 3rd place finish in the 4x400 meter relay. Megan Jenkins, Kelly Denninghoff, Hannah Bingham, and Illenia DeHart teamed up for a time of 3:47.49, marking the second program record set this weekend.

Utah Tech's highlight in the field events on Saturday came over at the high jump where Lainee Leavitt recorded a 1.65m mark, landing her with another podium finish for the Trailblazers in 3rd place. 

The 55 team points for Utah Tech at the WAC Track & Field Outdoor Championships is a new record in the program's division 1 history.
