Utah Tech track & field heads to the Golden State for the first time this season to compete at the CSU Fullerton-hosted Fullerton Friday Night Lights on Friday, April 11, at the Titans Track and Field Complex in Fullerton, California.

RECORDS KEEP FALLING
The Trailblazers set five program records at their season-opening Utah Tech Invitational. Junior Laine Leavitt (High Jump, 1.65 meters, 5-5), senior Rashawnna Gibson (200 Meters, 24.35), senior Lexi Larsen (1,500 Meters, 4:32.24) and sophomore Whitney Christiansen (400 Meters, 54.79) all broke individual records. The Trailblazers also set a new 4x100-meter relay record with a time of 46.29. Gibson, Christiansen, junior Brittany Kuhn and freshman Adaorah Okafor ran the relay.

Christiansen set the Trailblazers' sixth program record of the season (800 meters, 2:09.94) at the UNLV Rebel ELITE on April 5 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

LAST TIME OUT
Utah Tech track & field notched a program record in the 800 meters by Whitney Christiansen and added 10 top-eight finishes on Saturday at the UNLV Elite Meet at Myron Patridge Stadium. The Trailblazers got action with the 4x100 meter relay team of Adaorah Okafor, Rashawnna Gibson, Christiansen and Jesse Fowler finishing fifth in a time of 47.19. The highlight of the afternoon came in the 800 meters as Christiansen won the event in a program record time of 2:09.94 and teammate senior Lexi Larsen posted a fourth-place finish in a time of 2:12.75 Sophomore Averie Perriton finished in the top eight in a pair of races coming in eighth in the 1500 meters (4:47.99) and sixth in the 5000 meters (18:40.54). Freshman Kambrie Wilkinson was the runner-up in the 5000 meters, clocking a time of 18:15.03. Junior Ashlyn Parish followed coming in fifth in the 100 meter hurdles posting a time of 13.71 Finally, four Trailblazer men finished in the top eight in a pair of events with Ryan Hatch coming in seventh in the 1500 meters and the trio of Dennis Sparks, Collin Manning and Dawson Leffler were all top eight in the 5000 meters.

2024 SEASON RECAP
UT competed in six meets last outdoor season, setting nine program records. At the 2024 WAC Outdoor Championships, six Trailblazers earned all-conference honors. Junior Megan Jenkins was named First Team All-WAC for finishing third in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 58.85.

HEAD COACH DERRICK ATKINS
Head coach Derrick Atkins is in his fifth season at the helm of Utah Tech track & field in 2025. 

With his guidance, Utah Tech has set school records in 19 indoor events and 18 outdoor events, with 17 of those records achieved during the 2024 seasons. The Trailblazer set nine program records during the 2025 indoor season.

UT has also excelled academically under Atkins with 10 Trailblazers earning academic all-WAC honors during the 2024 indoor season and 25 Trailblazers earning the same honor during the 2024 outdoor season.

Utah Tech will return to Southern California next week for the Azusa Pacific-hosted Bryan Clay Invitational (April 16-18) and the Long Beach State-hosted Beach Invitational (April 18-19) in Azusa and Long Beach, California, respectively.
