Utah Tech heads to the desert next week for its 2025 spring season opener at the Utah Valley-hosted Wigwam Preview.

The three-day, 54-hole tournament will be played at the par-72, 5,885-yard Wigwam Resort Blue Course in Litchfield Park, with play starting each morning at 9 a.m. (MT). The Wigwam Resort Blue Course will also serve as the site for the 2025 WAC Women's Golf Championships this upcoming April.  

The tournament field will include the Trailblazers and the host Wolverines, along with fellow WAC members California Baptist, Seattle U, Southern Utah, Tarleton State and UT Arlington. In addition, Idaho State and British Columbia will round out the nine-team field. 
 
The five player lineup for the Trailblazers will feature juniors Jenna Anderson and Jane Olson, sophomores Mia Cesarek and Samantha Phelan, and freshman Maria Purroy Galan.

HEAD COACH LINDSEY ORTH: Lindsey Orth (Utah Tech, 2007) is in her ninth season as head coach of the Trailblazer women's golf program. 
    Last season, Coach Orth led the Trailblazers to eight top-10 showings in 10 team events, highlighted by a fifth-place finish as hosts of its Utah Tech Trailblazer Invitational, and a seventh-place showing at the 2024 Western Athletic Conference Championships.
    In addition, all seven of her players went on to earn 2023-24 Academic All-WAC, and WGCA Academic All-America Scholars honors, while three others were named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District team.  
    During her tenure as Utah Tech head coach, Orth has guided the Blazers to a runner-up Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference team finish in 2019, and to consecutive fifth-place finishes at the Pacific West Conference Championships in 2017 and 2018. 
    Prior to her arrival at Utah Tech, she served as assistant golf professional at the Sand Hollow Golf Resort, and as an LPGA assistant teaching professional for the City of St. George. Orth also spent two seasons on the coaching staff of the Hurricane High School girl's golf program, including a one-year stint as the Tigers' head coach in the 2010-11 season. 
    Coach Orth, who is an apprentice member of the LPGA T&CP, played collegiately at the University of Central Arkansas, where she helped lead the Bears to six-consecutive team tournament wins and a Gulf South Conference championship.
 
LAST TIME OUT: Utah Tech wrapped up its 2024 fall schedule with a 14^th-place team finish at the Hawai'i Rainbow Wahine Invitational, which was played this past Oct. 21-23, at Kapolei Golf Club on the Island of Oahu. 
    The Trailblazers got off to a tough start to open tourney play as they combined to card a 20-over par 308 to stand in 15^th-place on the team leaderboard. Utah Tech managed to pare 13 strokes off its score on the team's second loop and in the process moved up one spot to 14^th-place after a 7-over 295. 
    However the Blazers could not make up any more ground on the field, wrapping up their trip with a 4-over 292 to finish at plus-31 895 overall. 
    Anderson and Cesarek paced the Trailblazer effort as the duo both tied for 39^th-overall at plus-5 221.
    Anderson (74-76-71) managed to roll six total birdies on the week, two in each round, including a pair of birdies and 14 pars as part of a final round 1-under 71, which tied for the team's low round of the event.
    Cesarek tallied eight total birdies over the three days, four of which came in her opening round, during which she carded a 2-over 74. The sophomore matched her 74 in the second round, before penciling in two birdies and 13 pars as part of a final round 1-over 73. 
    Phelan finished a shot back of her teammates in a four-way tie for 42^nd at plus-6 222. The sophomore, who rolled in a team-high 10 total birdies during the event, bounced back from an opening 7-over 79 with four birdies and 13 pars on her way to a second round 71. Phelan then finished with an even par 72 on her final loop with five more birdies. 
    Olson (81-74-81) rolled in eight total birdies en route to a t-84^th place showing at plus-20 236, and Purroy Galan (82-83-76) holed five of her eight total birdies in the final round as she tied for 88^th at plus-25 241.

TRAILBLAZERS AT A GLANCE: Through Utah Tech's four fall events, Phelan leads the team with a 73.55 stroke average through 11 rounds with a co-team high five par or better rounds, while Cesarek is second 75.64 with one par or better round. 
    Purroy Galan is third in stroke average at 75.73 through her first 11 collegiate rounds with three par or better rounds, followed by Anderson in fourth at 77.91, and Olson in fifth at 78.27 after four tourneys.

2025 SPRING SCHEDULE: The Trailblazers will play in four regular season events this spring, three of which will be held in Arizona. Following the UVU event, Utah Tech will head back to the "Grand Canyon State" to play at the Western Michigan-hosted Rio Verde Collegiate Invitational on Feb. 21-23 at the Rio Verde Country Club.
    Utah Tech will also tee it up at the annual Southern Utah Pizza Hut Lady Thunderbird Invite in the Blazers' backyard at Sunbrook Golf Course in St. George next month (March 7-9).
    The Trailblazers returns to Arizona to close the regular season at the Montana State Bobcat Desert Classic (April 8-10) at The Golf Club of Estrella in Goodyear. 
    The 2025 WAC Women's Golf Championships, which will be played at the Wigwam Resort in Litchfield Park, will be played on April 14-16.
