Utah Tech came away with a ninth-place finish at the Eastern Washington Kalispel Invitational, which wrapped up play on Tuesday at the Kalispel Golf and Country Club in Spokane.
The Trailblazers found themselves in fifth place after firing an 11-over par 299 on their opening loop on Monday morning, which was on only seven shots off the early pace set by Boise State. Utah Tech went out in the afternoon and again posted 299, which dropped the team down into a tie for seventh place at plus-22 598.
Utah Tech improved by three strokes on its final loop on Tuesday, combining for an 8-over 296, only to slide down two slots on the final leaderboard with a three-round team total of plus-30 894.
Boise State (292-283-286) led wire-to-wire and was the only team to post a red number, finishing at 3-under 861 to claim the team title. The Broncos bested runner-up Grand Canyon (298-292-285-875; +11) by 14 shots, while Fresno State (300-287-290-877; +13) placed third.
Senior
Samantha Phelan led the Trailblazer effort, recording her first individual top-10 of the young season, and the 10
th top-10 of her career, as she finished in a four-way tie for eighth place on the player leaderboard at plus-1 217.
Phelan, who led Utah Tech with 10 total birdies over the three rounds of play, carded a pair of 1-over 73s that bookended a second round 1-under 71.
Sophomore
Coryn Tardiff came away with her first top-25 showing of the year, joining three others in a tie for 23
rd at plus-7 223. After opening with a 5-over 77 on Monday morning, Tardiff bounced back with a 2-over 74 in round two, and fired a collegiate career-low final round even par 72 on Tuesday, which allowed her to vault nine spots up the board.
Junior
Maria Purroy Galan also made a move on Tuesday as she managed to jump 13 spots into a tie for 38
th at plus-11 227. Galan carded rounds of 4-over 76 and 6-over 78 on Monday, but rebounded with three birdies as part of a final round 73 on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, senior
Mia Cesarek (73-76-81) finished in a three-way tie for 50
th at plus-14 230, and junior
Gabrielle Roznicki (80-82-78) tied for 72
nd at plus-24 240.
The Trailblazers will enjoy nearly a month off before traveling to Arkansas to play in the Little Rock Diamante Intercollegiate. The three-day, 54-hole event will be played on Oct. 18-20, at Diamante Country Club in Hot Springs.
