Utah Tech finished in a two-way tie for eighth place at the 2026-27 season opening Utah Valley Wolverine Invitational, which concluded play on Tuesday at TalonsCove Golf Course in Saratoga Springs.
The Trailblazers stood in the middle of the pack in solo sixth place through 36 holes on Monday. Utah Tech began the day by shooting a combined 10-over par 298, which was good for a tie for fourth overall with Idaho State.
However the Blazers struggled during their afternoon loop, firing an 18-over 306, which dropped them down two spots on the team leaderboard. Utah Tech did rebound on Tuesday, carding a 9-over 297, but it was not enough to claw back up in the standings as the Trailblazers finished with a team score of plus-37 901, which tied them with Eastern Washington (309-303-289-901; +37).
Host UVU (290-298-287-875; +11) put together a final round rally to claim the team title, two shots clear of runner-up Wyoming (293-289-295-877; +13), and three strokes ahead of third place Southern Utah (301-295-282-878; +14).
Junior
Maria Purroy Galan was the top Utah Tech finisher as bounced back from consecutive 3-over 75s to card a final round 2-under 70 on Tuesday to vault up seven spots on the leaderboard into solo 11
th at plus-4 220. Galan penciled in a team-high eight total birdies in the event, four of which came during her final loop.
Senior
Samantha Phelan got off to a strong start with a 1-under 71 on Monday morning. However rounds of 3-over 75 and a final round 6-over 78 moved her into a tie for 22
nd at plus-8 224.
Fellow senior
Mia Cesarek battled back after rounds of 75 and 78 on Monday with a final round 1-over 73 to finish in a four-way tie for 30
th at plus-10 226. Cesarek rolled in five of her seven total birdies for the event on Tuesday, and she carded an eagle during Monday's second round.
Junior
Gabrielle Roznicki (77-79-77) followed in t-50
th place at plus-17 233, and sophomore
Coryn Tardif (79-78-77) finished in solo 53
rd at plus-18 234.
In addition, two Trailblazer freshmen made their collegiate debuts playing as individuals at the event.
After opening with rounds of 77 and 76 on Monday,
Kira Connell carded an even par 72 on Tuesday with one birdie, one bogey and 16 pars, which moved her into a four-way tie for 26
th at plus-9 225. Meanwhile,
Ava Kawahara (75-86-79) tied for 60
th-overall at plus-24 240.
Utah Tech continues its 2026 fall season next week at the Gonzaga Kalispel Invitational. The two-day, 54-hole event will take place Sept. 21-22 at the Kalispel Golf and Country Club in Spokane, Wash.
