GIBSON SETS PROGRAM RECORD
Senior Rashawnna Gibson set the program record in the 60 meters with a time of 7.61 at the Snake River Open on Jan. 17. Gibson knocked 0.03 of a second off her previous school-record time of 7.64 set last season while taking second with her personal best time.

LAST TIME OUT
Utah Tech track & field opened the indoor season with eight top-eight finishes and a program record at the Idaho State-hosted Snake River Open on Friday, Jan. 17 in Pocatello, Idaho. Gibson took second in the 60 meters with a program-record time of 7.61. In the 400 meters, three Trailblazers finished in the top eight. Sophomore Whitney Christiansen took second with a time of 56.59, freshman Lily Sampson came in sixth at 58.26 and junior Megan Jenkins placed eighth with a time of 58.33. Jenkins added a sixth-place finish in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.05. Sophomore Mackenzie Bradach took seventh in the long jump with a mark of 5.09 meters (16-8.50). In the high jump, junior Lainee Leavitt cleared the bar at 1.58 meters (5-2.25) to take eighth place. The Trailblazer relay of Christiansen, Jenkins, Sampson and freshman Illenia DeHart placed seventh in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:59.57.

RETURNERS
Utah Tech brings back 30 returners this season with eight seniors, nine juniors, 12 sophomores and one redshirt freshman. The Trailblazers return nine second-team All-WAC honorees from last indoor season with seniors Sadie Edwards (DMR), Lexi Larsen (mile, DMR) and Addi Wyatt (800 meters, 4x400-meter relay); juniors Kelly Denninghoff (4x400-meter relay), Savannah Eatough (DMR), Megan Jenkins (4x400-meter relay) and Ashlyn Parish (60-meter hurdles); and sophomores Whitney Christiansen (4x400-meter relay) and Averie Perriton (5,000 meters).

NEWCOMERS
The Trailblazers welcome 10 newcomers to the team this season including four distance runners, three sprinters and two transfer distance runners from Southern Utah.

HEAD COACH DERRICK ATKINS
Head coach Derrick Atkins enters his fifth season at the helm of Utah Tech track & Field in 2025. 

With his guidance, Utah Tech has set school records in 17 indoor events and 18 outdoor events, with 17 of those records achieved during the 2024 seasons.

UT has also excelled academically under Atkins with 10 Trailblazers earning academic all-WAC honors during the 2024 indoor season and 25 Trailblazers earning the same honor during the 2024 outdoor season.

Utah Tech returns to Pocatello, Idaho, on Feb. 14-15 for the Idaho State-hosted Mountain State Games.
