(Orem, Utah - May 11, 2024) - The Trailblazer track and field team closed out the WAC Outdoor Championships on Saturday afternoon with three top-five finishes and five program records at the Hal Wing Track and Field at Utah Valley.
The action got started with the 4x100 meter relay team of
Rashawnna Gibson,
Whitney Christiansen,
Brittany Kuhn and
Kelly Denninghoff finishing seventh in a program record time of 46.45 trimming off 0.08 seconds off the previous top time set at last year's WAC Outdoor Championships.
Junior
Lexi Larsen finished fifth in the 1500 meters clocking a program record time of 4:35.62 to score four team points.
Sophomore
Ashlyn Parish kept the Trailblazers top times going in the 100 meter hurdles placing fourth with a time of 13.62 to tally five points.
The top finish of the meet came in the 400 meter hurdles from sophomore
Megan Jenkins with a third-place finish in 58.85 breaking her own program mark by 0.82 seconds set on Thursday in the prelims.
The final scoring performance of the meet came in the last event as the 4x400 meter relay team of Christiansen,
Addi Wyatt, Denninghoff and Jenkins took eighth in a program-best time of 3:49.18.
Utah Valley won the women's title with 177 points followed by Grand Canyon (118 pts.), UT Arlington (117.5 pts.), UTRGV (105 pts.) and Abilene Christian (83 pts.).
The remainder of the field was rounded out by Tarleton State (61 pts.), Southern Utah (60.5 pts.), Stephen F. Austin (41 pts.), California Baptist (23 pts.), Utah Tech (20 pts.) and Seattle U (13 pts.)
