(St. George, Utah – March 28, 2024) - The Trailblazers continue the outdoor season on Friday heading to the Vince O'Boyle Track and Field Classic hosted by UC Irvine at Anteater Stadium.

TRAILBLAZERS SET FIVE PROGRAM RECORDS AT UTAH TECHÂ INVITATIONAL
Utah Tech opened the outdoor season last weekend at the Utah Tech Invitational setting five new program records.
Sophomore
Ashlyn Parish raced to a third-place finish in the 100 meter hurdles in a program record time of 13.92.
Fellow sophomore
Megan Jenkins placed fifth in the 400 meter hurdles clocking a time of 1:01.74 while freshman
Kaydance Sherwood came in third in the 200 meters in 24.81.
On the men's side, freshman Ryan Newton set the program record in both the 1500 and 3000 meters taking fourth in both events running times of 3:52.36 and 8:50.15, respectively.
BLAZERS ADD A PAIR OF FIRST PLACE FINISHES AT UT INVITE
The Trailblazers added a pair of winning times on Saturday at the Utah Tech Invitational with
Rashawnna Gibson winning the 100 meters in 11.80 and the 4x100m relay team of Parish, Gibson,
Kooper Dennison and
Jesse Fowler also coming in first in a time of 46.89.
UTAH TECH FINISHES NINTH AT WAC INDOOR CHAMPIONSHIPS
The Trailblazers wrapped up the indoor season on Feb. 19-20 at the WAC Championships finishing ninth as a team with 17 points.
Scoring in six different events, the Blazers were led by Parish in the finals of the 60 meter hurdles finishing fourth in a time of 8.64.
Other top individual finishers were juniorÂ
Addi Wyatt in the 800 meters (5th, 2:15.45), freshmanÂ
Averie Perriton in the 5000 meters (7th, 18:25.74) andÂ
Lexi Larsen in the mile (8th, 5:03.12).
Larsen set the program record in the mile in the prelims breaking the five-minute mark clocking a time of 4:59.34.

Savannah Eatough and Larsen finished sixth for the second-fastest time in program history (12:25.28) while the 4x400 meter relay team of Jenkins,Â
Whitney Christiansen,Â
Kelly Denninghoff and Wyatt came in seventh in a program-record time of 3:50.66.
TEN PROGRAM RECORDS SET IN THE INDOOR SEASON
The Trailblazers continued to rewrite the record book in the indoor season setting 10 new program records over the course of the season.
New marks were set in the 60 meters (Gibson), 200 meters (Gibson), 300 meters (Sherwood), 400 meters (Christiansen), 500 meters (
Ryan Mendez), 1000 meters (Larsen), Mile (Larsen), 60 meter hurdles (Parish), long jump (
Mackenzie Bradach) and the distance medley relay team (Skinner, Edwards, Eatough & Larsen).
OUTDOOR SEASON
The Trailblazers will compete in three more outdoor meets prior to the 2024 WAC Outdoor Championships set for May 9-11 hosted by Utah Valley.
Utah Tech will head to the UNLV ELITE meet next week (April 5-6), make a quick trip to the SUU Coliseum Championships on April 20 and then head to the BYU Invitational (April 24-27) to close out the regular season.
RETURNERS
Utah Tech brings back 22 returners this season with 10 sophomores and 12 juniors.
JuniorÂ
Addi Wyatt is back as a mid-distance runner after earning All-WAC honors in the 800 meters in both the indoor and outdoor seasons in 2023.
NEWCOMERS
The Trailblazers welcome 18 newcomers to the team this season with six distance runners, eight sprinters, two sprinters/hurdlers, one hurdler and one jumper/sprinter.
HEAD COACH DERRICK ATKINS
Head coachÂ
Derrick Atkins is in his fourth season as the head coach of the track and field team in 2024.
With his guidance, the Trailblazers have achieved significant success setting 16 school records in outdoor events and 12 in indoor events, with 10 of those records being set in the 2023 season alone.
Not only has the team excelled athletically, but they have also excelled academically. They earned 20 Indoor Academic All-Conference honors and 45 Academic All-Conference honors outdoor.
