(Riverside, Calif. - Sept. 16, 2023) - The Utah Tech cross country teams continued their 2023 season on Saturday morning at the UC Riverside Invitational in California.

Racing on the UCR Agricultural Operations Course, the women ran a 6K while the men competed in an 8K.

For a second straight race, the Trailblazer women were led by senior Shakayla Morgan who placed 49th with a time of 21:39.5. Four other Blazers finished in the top 100 with four more competing in the race.

Utah Valley won the women's race scoring 20 points with Long Beach State (103 pts.) taking second. The Trailblazers came in 12th with the field being rounded out by Claremont Mudd-Scripps (117 pts.), UC Irvine (119 pts.), Arizona (166 pts.), Southern Utah (203 pts.), Azusa Pacific (209 pts.), Concordia (224 pts.), Grand Canyon (228 pts.), Cal Poly Pomona (241 pts.), UC Santa Cruz (297 pts.), Utah Tech (344 pts.), Chapman (350 pts.), Pepperdine (381 pts.), CSUN (395 pts.), Fresno State (395 pts.), Fresno Pacific (429 pts.), UC Riverside (449 pts.).

On the men's side, the Trailblazers were led by freshman Kyle Neuenschwander with an 8K time of 24:49.5. Quinton Read, Julien Canales, Ryan Newton and Trent Holiday rounded out the scoring for Utah Tech.

Southern Utah won the men's race with 41 pts. with Utah Valley (104 pts.), Arizona (127 pts.), Azusa Pacific (142 pts.) and Cal Poly Pomona (153 pts.) completing the top five. The Blazers came in 20th overall as a team with 520 points.

Utah Tech is back in action on Oct. 7 at the Southern Utah Color Country Invitational in Cedar City.
