The Utah Tech women's track and field team took on teams from Utah, Idaho, Wyoming, and a sizable group of unattached athletes at the BYU Robison Classic. The meet took place in Provo Utah at 4'500 feet altitude giving the sprint events an advantage while slowing down the times in the more aerobic-based distance events. The Blazers had a good two days of competition full of fast marks, personal records, and a new team records run by Addi Wyatt.
 
DAY ONE: The meet opened with the quickest event in track, the 100-meter dash. Sophomore Rashawnna Gibson put down the fastest time of the day for the Blazers running 12.23, her second-fastest time on the year and the second-fastest mark in team history. Sophomore Ashlynn Gilhula was the second Trailblazer in 12.43 tied for seventh all-time. The flat 100 was followed by the 100 hurdle heats where Freshman Megan Jenkins ran a lifetime best of 14.98 now sixth on the team's list.
The meet continued with the full lap 400-meter dash. Sophomore Addi Wyatt took the top spot for the Blazes in 58.17 the team's all-time number-six mark. Sophomore Sadie Edwards ran a personal best of 58.31 tied for the seventh-best team mark. In the final event of day one, the 400-meter hurdles, Jenkins led just like she did in the 100-hurdles. Megan Jenkins ran 1:03.63 her third-best time of the year and the third time in team history.
 
DAY TWO: The second day opened up with the 3000-meter steeplechase. Sophomore Kinley Spaulding finished eight in 12:32.27, a big personal record, as the first Utah Tech athlete to tackle the event this year. Up next was the first relay of the day, the 4X100-meter. The relay team of Abigail Yadon, Ashlynn Gilhula, Mary Fallon, and Rashawnna Gibson ran the team's all-time number-five mark in 48.12.
 
While the first couple of events were happening Utah Tech took flight in the high jump. Senior Morgan Callens and freshman Lainee Leavitt tied for the highest Trailblazer clearance at 1.50m (4' 11").
 
The mile is generally considered the premier event at the Robison Classic. It is one of the very few meets that runs the normally indoor-only event. The Trailblazers had two entries in the event. Sophomore Mariah Skinner was the top finished in the large field in 5:27.21. Close behind was sophomore Rylee Jacobsen in 5:33.88.
 
The next event produced the Trailblazers biggest performance of the day. In the 800 sophomore, Addi Wyatt once again set the team record running 2:13.14 taking eighth place overall. There were big PRs as well for Sophomore Sadie Edwards at 2:17.92 the team all-time number-five mark as well as junior Camilla Hamilton at 2:18.19, a team number-six performance. In the 200 sophomore, Rashawnna Gibson ran blazing time 25.22. She was followed by sophomore Ashlynn Gilhula in 25.40. Both times were personal best, but run with a non-wind legal 2.4 tailwind.
 
The Trailblazers entered three athletes in the 5000-meter run where junior Shakayla Morgan ran a great time at altitude of 18:27.82 despite the racing being at altitude. The meet was then capped off by the 4x400-meter relay where the team's number three all-time performance, 3:55.69, was run by Sadie Edwards, Addi Wyatt, Megan Jenkins, and Abigail Yadon taking seventh place.
 
UP NEXT: Utah Tech will travel to UC Irvine for the second time this season to run the Steve Scott Imitational this coming weekend. Competition will begin Friday the 28th and conclude on Saturday the 29th. It will be the team's final meet before the WAC Championships.
