Trailblazers Knock Off CBU on Sunday, 6-1

Utah Tech snapped its season-long six game losing streak thanks to a 6-1 victory at California Baptist in the final game of a three-game WAC weekend series on Sunday afternoon at James W. Totman Stadium.

The Trailblazers (8-20/3-6 WAC) broke open a scoreless game with a pair of runs in both the third and fourth innings to race out to a commanding 4-0 lead.

Jack Walker and Shane Taylor both singled to lead off the Blazer third, then after Ethan He bunted both base runners over, Chase Rodriguez flew out to left field to plate Walker carrying the game's first run. Taylor, who raced to third on the flyout, would scamper home on a wild pitch two pitches later for the second run of the frame.

Utah Tech kept the momentum going in the fourth, when after Parker Schmidt doubled and was bunted to third, Logan Jackson doubled to the gap in left center to plate Schmidt. Jackson then took third on a wild pitch and later scored on a Hank Dodson bloop single to left.

UT took a 5-1 lead into the ninth, and Jackson quickly made it a five-run advantage as he connected for his third home run of the season to lead off the stanza.

Meanwhile junior Carson Angeroth (W, 2-0), who made his second start of the season, struck out a career-high five and limited the Lancers (14-14/7-5 WAC) to just one run and seven hits over five innings.

Utah Tech then turned the game over to its bullpen, and the trio of Dakoda West (2 Ks), Evan Vasiliou (2 Ks) and Jacob Taggart (5 Ks) combined to record nine more strikeouts and limited CBU to just two hits over the final four innings to help the Trailblazers salvage the series finale.

Jackson wound up with two hits, two RBI and two runs scored, while Jack Walker collected two hits and two runs, as Utah Tech tallied nine safeties on the afternoon.

Utah Tech continues its road swing with a quick trip to Salt Lake City for a Tuesday mid-week game at Utah. First pitch at Smith's Ballpark is slated for 6 p.m.
