Utah Tech was felled by three big Bearkat innings as the Trailblazers lost the final game of their three-game series against WAC-leading Sam Houston, 18-6 in seven innings, on Sunday afternoon at Bruce Hurst Field.
Â
Utah Tech (9-26/4-11 WAC) saw a 1-0 second inning lead disappear as the Bearkats struck for six runs in the third to race out to a commanding 6-1 advantage.
Â
The Trailblazers counter-punched with four runs of their own in the home half of the frame, with the big blow coming on a three-run
Zach Thomas home run that trimmed the deficit to 6-5.Â
Â
From there it was all Sam Houston (22-15/14-4 WAC), which answered with five runs in the fourth and plated seven more in the seventh on its way to the road series win.
Â
Thomas finished with two hits and two runs scored to go with his three RBI, while
Ethan He and
Parker Schmidt also collected two hits apiece. In addition,
Shane Taylor extended his career-long hitting streak to 16-straight games with a fourth inning single.
Â
Utah Tech will head back out on the road for a non-conference date at Utah Valley this Monday night in Orem. First pitch is slated for 6:05 p.m.
