Trailblazers Stymied by WAC Leader Sam Houston Saturday, 6-3

Utah Tech could not overcome a quick Sam Houston start as the Trailblazers dropped the middle game of their three-game series against the WAC leaders by a 6-3 count on Saturday afternoon at Bruce Hurst Field.

The Blazers (9-25/4-10 WAC) found themselves in an early first inning hole after Bearkat first baseman Tyler Davis connected for a three-run home run.

Utah Tech battled back with a run in the third, and two more runs in the fourth to tie the game at 3-3. Shane Taylor singled in UT's first run, while a Hank Dodson run-scoring groundout and a two-out Garrett Cutting double drew the Trailblazers even after four innings complete.

Unfortunately the game did not stay tied long as Sam Houston (21-15/13-4 WAC) clapped back in the fifth with a Walker Janek two-run homer, and tacked on an insurance run in the seventh to stretch its lead back to three runs.

The Trailblazers did have their chances as they had runners on the base paths in each of their final four offensive frames, including having the bases loaded with one out in the sixth. However the Bearkats held Utah Tech at bay to come away with their first win in the series.

Taylor finished with two hits to extend his career-long hit streak to 15-straight games. Meanwhile Tyson Fisher, who doubled twice in UT's series opening win on Friday night, picked up another double and tripled as part of a 2-for-4 effort with a run scored. Cutting also legged out two doubles as Utah Tech wound up with nine hits on the afternoon.

Utah Tech will look to clinch the series win in the rubber game on Sunday afternoon at 12:05 p.m.
