(St. George, Utah – Dec, 6, 2023) - The Utah Tech indoor track and field team gets the 2023-24 season underway this weekend at the BYU December Invitational at the Smith Fieldhouse and Indoor Practice Facility on Friday and Saturday.

RETURNERS
Utah Tech brings back 23 returners this season with 10 sophomores, 12 juniors and one senior. Junior
Addi Wyatt is back as a mid-distance runner after earning All-WAC honors in the 800 meters in the outdoor season last season.
NEWCOMERS
The Trailblazers welcome 19 newcomers to the team this season with seven distance runners, eight sprinters, two sprinters/hurdlers, one hurdler and one jumper/sprinter.
INDOOR SEASON
The Blazers will compete in six indoor meets with a return to Provo for the BYU Indoor Invitational set for Jan. 11-13. Back-to-back trips to Northern Arizona highlight the middle of the season followed by a trip to Idaho State for the Mountain State Games on Feb. 9-10 and the WAC Indoor Championships is set for the Albuquerque Convention Center on Feb. 19-20.
HEAD COACH DERRICK ATKINS
Head coach
Derrick Atkins enters his fourth season as the head coach of the track and field team in 2024.
With his guidance, the Trailblazers have achieved significant success setting 16 school records in outdoor events and 12 in indoor events, with 10 of those records being set in the 2023 season alone.
Not only has the team excelled athletically, but they have also excelled academically. They earned 20 Indoor Academic All-Conference honors and 45 Academic All-Conference honors outdoor.
