Trailblazers post pair of ninth place finishes in Riverside

The Trailblazers turn their focus to the WAC Cross Country Championships set for Oct. 27 in Abilene, Texas at Zoe Park.

(Riverside, Calif. - Oct. 14, 2023) - The Utah Tech cross country teams wrapped up the regular season on Saturday morning at the UC Riverside Highlander Invitational with a pair of ninth place team finishes.

Racing on the UCR Agricultural Operations Course, the men started off with an 8K followed by the women's 6K.

For the fourth time this season, freshman Kyle Neuenschwander led the men clocking the second-fastest time in program history in the 8K with a time of 24:26.2. Two more Blazers also joined the top 10 list in the 8K list with junior Julien Canales and senior Quinton Read registering the seventh and ninth-best times, respectively, in the 8K in program history.

UC Riverside won the men's race with 63 points while the Trailblazers came in ninth with 256 points. The Master's, Fullerton, Nevada and UC San Diego rounded out the top five teams on the men's side.

On the women's side, senior Shakayla Morgan also was the top women's finisher for the fourth time this season coming in 23rd in the 6K with a time of 21:07.6. That time checks in as the fourth-fastest time in the 6K in program history.

Six other Trailblazer women finished in the top 100 overall as a total of 12 Blazer women competed on Saturday.

Long Beach State won the women's race with 81 points while the Trailblazers came in ninth with 230 points. Fullerton, UC Riverside, Arizona State and San Diego State rounded out the top five teams on the women's side.

Utah Tech closes out the season at the WAC Cross Country Championships hosted by Abilene Christian at Zoe Park on Oct. 27.
