Trailblazer Track & Field heads to Provo for BYU Robison Invitational

Dixie State women's track and field is set to return to competition on Friday and Saturday and will travel to the Clarence F. Robison Track and Field Complex in Provo, Utah, for the BYU Robison Invitational

The Trailblazers will compete in 16 events during their two days in Utah county, including 10 running events and six field events.

DSU AT THE BYU ROBISON INVITATIONAL: DSU's trip to Provo will mark the second time the Trailblazers have competed at the BYU Robison Invitational. Dixie State made its debut at the event during the 2021 season and saw three individuals and one relay team combine to break six school records.

TRAILBLAZER EVENTS/COMPETITORS: The Trailblazers will open the weekend with four events on Friday. Sophia Imola will take part in the hammer throw for the first official DSU event of the meet, followed by Paige Davis in the long jump.

Dixie State will field eight runners in the 100m as Rashawnna Gibson, Ashlynn Gilhula, Erica Holt, Erin Hurst, Elize Larsen, Emma Terry, Malaiyah Thomas, and Abigail Yadon all compete for a spot in the finals on Saturday.

Sadie Edwards will represent the lone Trailblazer to compete in the 400m and will wrap up the first day of the Trailblazers' competition.

DSU will participate in its 12 remaining events on Saturday, including eight running events and four field events, beginning with the Blazers' longest event of the meet as Madison Flippence, Shakayla Morgan, and Kirstin Williams compete in the 10,000m.

Davis will open DSU's Saturday field events in the triple jump, followed by Kylie Bishop and Morgan Callens in the high jump.

Three Trailblazers will participate in the 3000m Steeplechase, including Gabby Royle, Kinley Spaulding, and Amy White, followed by Grace McLaughlin, Brooklyn Smith, and Jaylee Sorenson in the mile run.

Dixie State will field relay teams in two events with one team competing in the 4x100 and two teams in the 4x400. Meanwhile, Imola will compete in the discus and Emilee Nelson and Allie Richardson will participate in the javelin to wrap up DSU's field events.

The Blazers will send a meet-high nine runners onto the track for the 200m, including Bailey Galbraith, Gibson, Gilhula, Holt, Hurst, Larsen, Terry, Thomas, and Yadon, while McLaughlin and Addi Wyatt will compete in the 800m.

DSU will wrap up its time on the track with two Trailblazers in the 5000m, including Nicolette Coffman and Smith.

LAST TIME OUT: Dixie State competed at the Weber State Spring Classic and the Utah Spring Classic meets two weeks ago, breaking three program records to go with 13 other school top-10 marks.

2022 ROSTER: Dixie State entered the 2022 Outdoor Season with 35 student-athletes on the roster, including 25 freshmen, six sophomores, and four juniors, with athletic eligibility based on the 2020-21 COVID-19 blanket waiver for an extra year of eligibility.

COACHING STAFF: Derrick Atkins continues his second season as head coach at Dixie State, and is again joined by assistants Justin Decker (Distance), Elizabeth Cook (Distance), Casidy Howard (Throws), and Ross Decker as a volunteer assistant.

UP NEXT: Dixie State will close the 2022 Track and Field season at the WAC Outdoor Championships in Seattle, Washington, on May 12-14.
